About Us

Ian Holland is a teacher, sound engineer and musician, and founded Sound Hertz in 2003.

He has been providing electric, acoustic and bass guitar tuition in Staffordshire and Cheshire for 10 years and currently teaches in 3 secondary schools in Cheshire.

Ian's work as a sound engineer began when he started providing public address systems for bands in Congleton. While mixing the sound at these gigs, he developed a vast interest in sound engineering, and branched out into studio recording. After gaining a Music Technology AS Level in 2002, Ian enroled on the Audio Engineering Techniques and Technology Industry Course at SSR Manchester. Whilst studying Ian continued to work in music venues; and on various recording sessions, and in 2004 he qualified from the course with a Distinction.

After qualifying, Ian converted the Music Technology facility at Eaton Bank School, Cheshire into a professional recording studio and continues to record bands and artists there on a regular basis.

Ian frequently works as a sound engineer in Cheshire and Staffordshire and has worked at various events including: Chester Beer Festival; Nantwich Jazz and Blues Festival; Congleton Jazz and Blues Festival; Congleton Carnival; and Rock on the Rocks (Biddulph Moor). Ian has also worked with artists as varied as Sarah Millican, Mark Radcliffe, The Janice Graham Band, Tom Hingley (Inspiral Carpets) and Georgie Fame.

Since 2007, Ian has been teaching A Level Music Technology in secondary schools in Cheshire; passing on his knowledge to a new generation of sound engineers.

Ian has been a gigging musician for 14 years. His instruments include guitar, vocals and the occasional bit of harmonica. Ian's performing life began initially as a solo performer and then later as guitarist/backing vocalist in SugarLust. As Ian developed as a performer he began to share lead vocal responsibilities with David Wedgbury. Since then he has been a member of several bands and gigged throughout the North West and Midlands.

Ian currently a member of SugarLust and Smokin' Babies and continues to perform solo, and when he isn't busy teaching, engineering,  in his studio writing new songs for SugarLust and his other projects.
